Comments about Baratza Baratza Virtuoso (585) Coffee Grinder:

During the past month, we used this newly purchased grinder each morning for espresso grind (at #09 setting for Cafe Americanos, and on weekends we make a large pot of drip grind (at #21 setting). Excellent consistency. When grinding a large quantity, the grounds statically cling to the grinder cup (common with all electric grinders that I have used), which can be quite messy. It is quiet, does not vibrate, and is just the right weight. I put felt pads over the rubber pads on the bottom, so the grinder glides about smoothly when cleaning the counter. Excellent product with an easy to understand set of instructions.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Virtuoso (585) Coffee Grinder:

This thing is a beauty. I received it about a week ago so I can't speak to its durability but everything indicates that I will be enjoying it for a long time. It makes a deep throaty sound when it grinds due to it being geared down for a slower grind.

Set on a five grind for espresso is perfect; just slightly coarser than baby powder. This is probably the lowest priced grinder that is capable of a true espresso grind.

I disagree with those that complain about the timer. It is one of those controls whose temperament you learn with use. My only complaint is that I sometimes have trouble getting the asymmetrical reservoir put back correctly, but that is small price to pay for this otherwise perfect grinder.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Virtuoso (585) Coffee Grinder:

Seems like a lifetime coffee grinder. Very well made and very fine adjustments to gound size. You can press a button to grind or twist a key on the side for a timed ground which is nice because you can get a feel for how far to turn the key for just the right amount of coffee. Great product.[...]

Comments about Baratza Baratza Virtuoso (585) Coffee Grinder:

This is a precision grinder. Powerful and effient. Runs quietly without coffee beans, but there is some unavoidable noise when grinding coffee beans. My wife and I use it daily. Do not store coffee beans in the hopper as shown on the box. Air is the enemy of coffee freshness. I store unused coffee in the freezer, in a tightly sealed bag, closed to minimize the air space around the coffee. I grind only what I need for the current brew. You can measure the beans directly. Fortunately the volume of the beans aprox equals the volume of ground coffee. We prepare Drip and Espresso. This grinder does it all.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Virtuoso (585) Coffee Grinder:

I bought the Baratza Virtuoso to replace a fore bearer, the Solis Maestro Plus, which I have used and enjoyed daily for more four years. The Solis still works well and will be passed onto my son. The Virtuoso has a few design refinements; a more powerful motor, different burrs and a silicone retainer to prevent coffee dust entering the motor compartment and grind adjustment components. Run empty, the Virtuoso is quieter than the Solis, but while grinding beans, the Virtuoso is noisier. With the stronger motor, the Virtuoso maintains a constant grinding speed whereas the Solis would slow down slightly when the beans loaded the burrs. The grind produced by The Virtuoso is consistent and even. So far, I have ground coffee for drip and espresso brews and been satisfied with the results. The Virtuoso is ruggeder, fancier and has a few new design elements over the Solis, but in my opinion both do the same for the coffee.

Service & Delivery comments:

Mercantila is an example of the ideal internet vendor and purchasing experience. Very competitive price, free shipping, rapid order processing, same day shipping and seven email. Mercantila sent an email to explain what to expect, another when the order was processed, another when the package was picked up and another with the tracking information and a link to the UPS tracking. My coffee grinder was ordered 9/28, shipped by UPS Ground from California and arrived at my home in New Jersey, 10/6/2009. Bravo Mercantila!!

This grinder will grind extremely fine or extremely course. Settings are very simple. The consistency of the grind is very desireable. Grinder is not messy, except for what mess I make. It is a great machine. I gave it a four star rating because I couldn't give it a four and a half.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Virtuoso (585) Coffee Grinder:

This is the best coffee grinder I have ever found. I have always ground my own beans, and other grinders heat them and with the constant use they get from me, they don't last long. Although this one is much more expensive than others I have bought, the heft and quality of the design insures that it will be in use for years. One thing about it, the grinds stick to the bin which makes a slight mess when pouring grinds into the filter. But, it is a small inconvenience compared to the cheap, poorly designed other grinders I have used.
